Creating A Blog: How To Make Your Blog Eye Catching!

Hi everyone!

Yesterday, I discussed how to choose a theme and topic for your blog. Today, I’m going to be sharing with you a few tips on how to make your blog eye catching!

1. BRIGHT COLOURS!

Incorporate bright colours into your blog for people’s eyes to look at it even more closely! I liked the way that my theme had the colours under the top bar! I thought it was so cute!

2. Create a centre image!

A centre image is an image that catches the readers attention, even before that read a post on your blog! The centre images are mostly always at easy view, so on the top or very top side. My centre image is an owl!

3. Use a TON of pictures!

Throughout your posts you should have a variety of pictures! I’m still getting in to using pictures to enchance my post! I recommend using pictures that you have personally taken!

Those are my tips on how to make your blog eye catching!

Creating a Blog: Themes and Topics

Hello Everyone!

Welcome to the first installment of my creating a blog series!

Today I’m going to walk you through picking a theme and topic!

**Before reading this, please be aware that I’m NO EXPERT on blogs, themes, or topics. Many of my viewers and friends have asked me several questions about creating a blog, and I wanted to make a step by step guide on how to do just that!**

Topic:

Before creating a blog, you want to think of a topic that you personally enjoy and have a passion of doing. The topics can be anything from baking to beauty, or reading to writing. ANYTHING YOU WANT!

Most people think that choosing a topic that readers want to read will get you more views and/or follows, although that may not be true. People can tell when your interested in what you are doing rather than just putting out content. Believe me, its true!

Themes:

A theme is the design base of your blog. Some people say not to judge anything by the way it looks, but most people do. You want to create something that is eye catching and that people will want to come back to. You want to make the design something that YOU enjoy and something that if YOU were the reader, YOU would come back to!

I also would recommend putting your style and personality into your blog! All of my friends personally, know that I have a HUGE obsession with owls, so I really wanted to showcase that into my blog. Sometimes people would say to me, “Oh your blog is about books and has that huge owl on top.” I’m not even kidding!

Tomorrow, we will go a little bit more in depth on eye catching blogs!

I hope you enjoyed reading my tips and tricks for, themes and topics!

The Week of ReadAThons (Bout of Books 13.0, Biannual Bibliothon and #AYearAThon TBR)!

Hey guys!

Welcome to today’s SECOND post of the day! I normally never do these, but today’s is a rare case! I just watched a video by one of my favourite book tubers, little book owl! It was all of the readathons happening in 2015 (here’s the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ziqIOFwIPY&index=35&list=WL), and there appears to be THREE this week!

Although, this week is my Creating a Blog Series week! So, I decided to post this as well, but this time the daily updates will be going on my facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/readingreadingreading)!

The first readathon happening is a BRAND NEW one! It’s called the Biannual Bibliothon! It’s happening for January 4-10! Yes, TOMORROW! Here’s the link to the official video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8wt8je4OBA.

The second one is the Bout of Books 12.0 Readathon! It’s happening on January 5-11! Yes, MONDAY! Here’s the official blog: http://boutofbooks.blogspot.com/!

The third and (luckily) final one is the #AYearAThon, this months is Stand Alones! It’s happening on January 5-11! Yes, MONDAY! Personally, #AYearAThons are one of my favourite readathons, as they happen every month and are always a different theme!

As you can see, ALL of these readathons are happening on the same week! So that this doesn’t happen again, I will be making a blog post next week of ALL of the readathons happening in 2015!

Here’s my TBR for each and every one of them!

  1. Everything Leads to You by Nina La Cour
  2. Fan Art by Sarah Tregay
  3. More Than This by Patrick Ness
  4. The Maze Runner by James Dashner

Those are actually all of the books I want to read in January, so we’ll see how many I can get through! I definitely should be able to finish Everything Leads to You by Nina La Cour, as I’m almost half way done (and loving it)!

Are you guys participating in any of these readathons? Let me know in the comments! Good Night Book Worms!

2015 Bookish Goals and Resolutions!

Hello everyone, and happy new year!

Today, I thought that I would show you my 2015 bookish goals and resolutions. Let’s get started!

  • Reading Goal: 50-60 BOOKS???

This year, I really want to read 50-60 books! I almost reached my goal of 50 books this year, and I was so proud of it! I want to try to read about 5 books every month. 5×12=60, so if I don’t read 5 books every month, I can still reach my main goal of 50 books!

  • Read/Finish Popular Books/Series

I know, I know haven’t I read all of the popular books? Sadly, NO! I haven’t read the entire Harry Potter Books, The Hunger Games Trilogy and The Maze Runner quartet. I’m currently reading the first book in The Maze Runner series, and I’m REALLY enjoying it! These few books series are on TOP of my TBR!

  • Use my Public Library More!

This year, I want to be more involved with my public library, and take out more books from there, instead of buying all my books! I have two beautiful public library’s, and I know not everyone is so lucky!

  • Be More Active on the Social Media that’s associated with my Blog!

If you guys didn’t know, I have a Twitter, Instagram and Facebook, all associated with my blog! I really want to be way more active on my social media! I am currently obsessed with updating my Facebook, so please like it if you haven’t already! I am also doing a January Instagram challenge to be more active on Instagram! Here are the links:

NaNoWriMo 2014: Chapter 8

School was back, up and running today. Today we have, what is called an NF day. This translates to a “not free” day. This means that there is no learning, but you must show up to school and do educational things, and at the same time you must follow your schedule. So, if you have history at period 1, you do history things, such as skim a textbook or work on an upcoming due project.
Luckily, today is the day that I and Leah have all the same classes together, so I can sit and talk to her about everything that’s happening.
This morning my mom makes I and my brother pancakes, although rushed, they were still delicious. “Hey Rachel, what are you doing at school today?” my mom asks. Why on earth would she ever want to know? I answer her anyways. “We have an NF day.” I say. “How about I pick you and David up a little bit earlier and we can do something fun. You both have seemed a little bit stressed these past days. I wanted to make it up to you both yesterday, but I was very busy. What do you say? Yes?” she says. I wanted to get out of the house and search more about Derek, but I guess this will have to wait. “Sure, I guess it will be fun.” I reply. Maybe it will be, you never know.
I arrive at school eight minutes early. So, I decide to drop David off at the free daycare and do some searching on Derek Smool. As I walk to the library, I spot Jared, my crush since grade four. I am now in grade eight. Jared has deep green eyes and short brown hair. We talk a lot, and some people say that he has a crush on me to, although I am not so sure about that speculation. “Hey Jared.” I say. “Hey Rachel! I’m going to the library to start my geography assignment, want to come with?” he asks. “Sure.” I say, casual and calm.
As we walk into the library, there are all kinds of beautiful poster, that advertise many things. School wide bagel day, kindergarten volunteers, library monitors and even sales representatives. “I have to get my school log in code; I’ve seemed to lost mine. I’ll meet you at the computers over there.” He says. I give him a quick thumbs up, and I’m off. I log in and start my research.

Happy New Year!

It is now, January 1, 2015!

I wish everyone a happy and healthy new year! You all made my year so special, and I wish the same to everyone aswell!

This week, can look forward to my bookish resolutions, most anticipated 2015 releases and exciting news, plus much more!

Again, Happy New Year and see you Tomorrow!

Most Disappointing Books of 2014

Hi guys & welcome back!

Today I’m going to be sharing with you my top picks for the most disappointing books that I read in 2014!

1. The School For Good and Evil by Soman Chainani

I know, I know, I still gave this book 4/5 stars. I guess I was being generous. I first heard about this book, and I really thought/expected that this would be one of my favourite books of 2014. It was, but I thought that it would have a lot more detail. I also HATED the ending! It was horrible. I still gave it 4/5 stars as I loved the charcters and the setting, plus the plot was very interesting/intriguing.

2. These Broken Stars by Amie Kaufman and Meghan Spooner

This book has the same case as the previous one. This book is also one of my favourite books of the year, but it didn’t meet all of my expectations. I love a nice sci-fi, and this really was one! Although, I thought that there could have been a little bit more action involved.

3. City of Bones by Cassandra Clare

This book is very hyped about on bookish sites and booktube. I for one have heard that a lot of people disliked this book very much out of all of the series. They say “Read the others! It gets so much better!” But for me, i would enjoy the series more if the first book is better, that way it will push me to read the next ones!

What were your most disappointing books that you read in 2014? Tell me in the comments!
