5-Star Predictions: Fall 2020

Welcome back to Reading, Reading, Reading!

SO many new books are coming out over the next few months, and I have loads of them pre-ordered from Indigo already! However, there are a select few books that I believe will be 5-star reads, and luckily for me, I already have them in my possession!

The first book I predict will receive a 5-star rating from me is IN A HOLIDAZE by Christina Lauren. I have an interesting history with Christina Lauren’s books, as I have loved two and not loved two others. However, I hope this one is as great as it sounds! Thanks to Simon and Schuster Canada for sending me an ARC!

The second book I predict will receive a 5-star rating from me is ANXIOUS PEOPLE by Fredrik Backman. Believe it or not, I have yet to read a Backman novel, but since I am on a huge literary fiction kick, I picked this one up in hopes of reading (and loving) it very soon!

My third 5-star prediction is HIS & HERS by Alice Feeney. Like Backman, I have never read a Feeney thriller before. However, this one sounds super intriguing to me, and I hope to read it right before Halloween!

My fourth 5-star prediction is THE WOMAN OUTSIDE MY DOOR by Rachel Ryan. When I had first heard of this book, I was so intrigued by it, and I actually pre-ordered myself a copy to arrive on it’s release date. Fortunately for me, Simon and Schuster Canada so kindly sent me an ARC to read and review, and I can’t wait to start reading it!

The final book I predict I will give a 5-star rating to is SUCH A FUN AGE by Kiley Reid. This book has been everywhere ever since it was chosen for Reese’s Book Club, and I hope it lives up to my incredibly high expectations!

Those are the five books I predict I will rate 5-stars! Have you read any of these books yet?

5-Star Predictions: Summer 2020

Welcome back to Reading, Reading, Reading!

Before we start this off, I hope all of you (us!) that are participating in The Reading Rush Readathon are doing well! I have read two full books as of Wednesday (the day I am writing this post), and hope to read at least three more by the end of the readathon!

Any who, last year, I started doing a seasonal 5-star predictions post where I shared five books that I thought would be 5-star reads. And at the end of each season, I would share my thoughts on the books and share whether they were actually 5-star reads or not! I had so much fun doing these posts in 2019, so I wanted to bring them back this year!

img_7548

The first book I predict will be a 5-star read is One To Watch by Kate Stayman-London. To be transparent, I have actually already read this novel…but you will have to wait for my 5-star reflections post! I will say, if you enjoy the Bachelor/Bachelorette TV show, I would highly recommend this one!

img_7546

The second book I predict will be 5-stars is Smoke Gets In Your Eyes & Other Lessons From The Crematory by Caitlin Doughty. I featured this book in my last book haul, but have yet to start it. I am still incredibly excited for this one, and plan on reading it near the end of the summer!

img_7547

My third 5-star prediction is A Woman Alone by Nina Laurin. As I have shared previously, Nina Laurin’s 2019 release, The Starter Wife, was my favourite book of 2019, so to say I have high expectations for this book is an understatement!

img_7549

My next 5-star prediction is The Hating Game by Sally Thorne. This book was incredibly popular last year, and to this day I have not heard one bad thing about it! My Mom read the book last spring and loved it, so I hope to have the same reading experience!

img_7545

The last book I predict will be 5-stars this summer is The Swap by Robyn Harding. I have been looking forward to reading this book for a very long time, and I hope to get to this book before the end of July!

Those are all of the books I plan to read this summer that I predict will be 5-star reads! Have you read any of these books? Let me know in the comments section!

5-Star Predictions: Fall 2019

Welcome back to Reading, Reading, Reading!

Over the past few seasons, I have created some 5-star predictions for books that are either releasing in that season or I am planning to read in that season. Last season, I didn’t read many of my 5-star predictions, therefore I didn’t make a reflection post like I did in the Spring. However, I still plan on reading this months’ 5-star predictions, and hopefully they will live up to my expectations!

The first book I predict will be a 5-star prediction is DON’T YOU FORGET ABOUT ME by Mhairi McFarlane. I purchased this book a few months ago, since it was 40% off at Chapters Indigo a little while ago. While I haven’t heard many reviews of this book, the few thoughts I have heard have been excellent!

fullsizeoutput_3687

The second book I believe will be a 5-star prediction is AMERICAN ROYALS by Katharine McGee. This book sounds super sweet and unique, plus who wouldn’t want to read about a hypothetical royal family in America?! Thanks to Penguin Teen Canada for an ARC of this book!

fullsizeoutput_3683

The third book I believe will be 5-stars is THE BABYSITTERS COVEN by Kate Williams. This book sounds super interesting and unique, and when I initially heard about it, I thought I would love it! Hopefully it lives up to all of my hype! Thanks to Penguin Teen Canada for the ARC!

fullsizeoutput_368e

The fourth book I think will be 5-stars is SLAY by Brittney Morris. This book talks about a lot of important topics, from racism to females in technology. If you recognize this book, you’ve probably seen it from BookExpo/Book Con’s massive marketing campaign on it. I really hope I love this book! Thanks to Simon & Schuster Canada for the ARC!

The last book I believe will be 5-stars is THE TEN THOUSAND DOORS OF JANUARY by Alix E. Harrow. While I don’t usually read much adult fantasy, this one sounds very similar to TLOS (my FAVOURITE middle grade series!) as well as Seanan McGuire’s fantasy series (which I haven’t read, but plan to very soon).

5-Star Predictions Summer 2019

Welcome back to Reading, Reading, Reading!

A few months ago, I posted my Spring 2019 5-Star Predictions, and everyone seemed to really enjoy it (especially when I reflected on it here)! So, I have decided to continue doing it for every season, and since summer is basically already upon us, I thought it would be fun to do it for this upcoming season!

If you didn’t read my previous 5-star predictions, here is some more info about it:

In each 5-star predictions post, I will be sharing my Top-Five 5-star predictions from new ARCs/new releases/back list books I plan to read during a specific season that I have in my possession that I think will be 5-star reads! I will try to make one 5-star prediction post for every season, especially since I already have some 5-star predictions for the season of Summer! After I have read all 5-books that I mentioned in this post, I will make a recap post and share if these books were, in fact, 5-star reads or not (although, if you constantly read my posts, then you will most likely see reviews of all of these books over the next few months, so you will know if it was a 5-star read in advance!).

The 5-star predictions featured below are put in an order from which one releases first, second, and so on, since that is the order I will most likely read them in.

img_2541

My first 5-star prediction of the Summer is SCREEN QUEENS by Lori Goldstein. This is my MOST anticipated release of 2019, and I cannot wait to read it! I am writing this post a week in advance, but by the time you are reading this, I most likely have already read it and my full review should be going up in a couple of days. Thanks to Penguin Teen Canada for the ARC!

img_2679

The next book I believe I will rate 5-stars is LITTLE FIRES EVERYWHERE by Celeste Ng. Even though this book came it quite a while ago, it is still massively popular and highly rated. Penguin Books just released the paperback edition of this novel, which you can see  in the photo above. I am SO excited to read this one, and hope that it lives up to my expectations!

img_2676

At the beginning of July, WE WALKED THE SKY by Lisa Fielder is set to release. I received an ARC of this one from Penguin Teen Canada, and I am really looking forward to reading it! The synopsis sounds super intriguing and beautiful, and I hope this book gets a 5-star rating from me!

img_2682

If you haven’t heard of WILDER GIRLS by Rory Power over the past few months, you may not be as active in the YA book community as you thought! This book has been getting a ton of rave reviews, even though it doesn’t come out until mid-July! This book is supposed to be a female “Lord of the Flies” retelling, and I loved LOTF when I read it last year, so I am very intrigued to see what will happen in the book!

img_2681

The last book I predict I will rate 5-stars this summer is HIM by Clare Empson. I received an ARC of this book from Hachette Book Group Canada, although I believe it has already been out for sometime in the UK… or this is an ARC of a new paperback edition, I’m not exactly sure. Regardless, the front cover and synopsis have me extremely intrigued!

5-Star Predictions: Spring 2019 Reflection

Welcome back to Reading, Reading, Reading!

Earlier this year, I shared my top 5-star predictions of the Spring (which books I thought I would read and rate 5-stars). Even though I only read four of the six featured, I thought it would be fun to reflect on those predictions and see which ones (if any!) I ended up rating 5-stars! You can see my original predictions here.

img_1139

The first book that I mentioned in my initial post was LOVE & OTHER CURSES by Michael Thomas Ford. While I expected to love this book, I sadly did not. This YA contemporary was just OK for me, but definitely did not blow me out of the water in any way. You can read my full review here. Thanks to HCC Frenzy for the ARC!

img_1135

The next book I featured was YOU MUST NOT MISS by Katrina Leno. Even though this wasn’t a full five stars for me, I still really enjoyed it! It was a very unique mix of suspense and paranormal activity, and it was so interesting! You can read my review here. Thanks to HBG Canada for the ARC!

img_1137

I then featured AGAIN, BUT BETTER by Christine Riccio. This is the first book on this list that I ADORED and gave a full 5-star rating to! I LOVED this YA contemporary, and it was even better than I expected! You can read my full review here. Thanks to Raincoast Books for the ARC!

img_1138

The last book on my Spring 5-star predictions post was THE SEVEN HUSBANDS OF EVELYN HUGO by Taylor Jenkins Reid. I gave this one 5-stars as well, and loved it! Evelyn Hugo definitely lived up to all of the hype, and the writing in this one was absolutely phenomenal!

I gave two out of four of my initial 5-star predictions a 5-star rating, which I think is excellent! Did you read any 5-star releases this month? Let me know in the comments!

5-Star Predictions: Spring 2019 Releases

Welcome back to Reading, Reading, Reading!

Since I have just gotten back into the swing of reading frequently (see here if you’re confused as to why I have not been posting/reading a lot lately), I don’t have any reviews to share with you just yet. However, I still wanted to write a post to share with all of you! Recently, I have been receiving and picking up quite a few books that I am really looking forward to reading and think that I will LOVE! And since I have been wanting to create a “5-Star Predictions” series on my blog, I think that now is the perfect time to start it!

In each 5-star predictions post, I will be sharing my Top-Five 5-star predictions from new ARCs/releases that I have in my possession that I think will be 5-star reads!

“There’s A Word For That” by Sloane Tanen was sent to me from Hachette Book Group Canada, and I believe that it will be a 5-star read! I am SO excited to read this one, especially since I LOVE books featuring a large family with an interesting family dynamic. In this case, the characters in the book actually end up coming together in a rehab centre, after they have all gone through their own personal issues. If that doesn’t sound like a great family-based book, I don’t know what does!

img_1139

“Love & Other Curses” by Michael Thomas Ford was sent to me from HarperCollins Canada Frenzy (teen division), and I believe that this book will be a 5-star read! This one has been sitting on my shelf since December, and every time I look at it, it intrigues me more and more! I don’t know much about this book, other than the fact that the main characters family is cursed, and if they fall in love with anyone before their seventeenth birthday, the person they love will die. How tragic! I’m super excited to read this one!!

img_1135

My next 5-star prediction is “You Must Not Miss” by Katrina Leno“You Must Not Miss” by Katrina Leno, which was sent to me from Hachette Book Group Canada. I literally know nothing about this book, but I believe it is a YA Mystery/Thriller, which is my favourite genre to read! I have heard phenomenal things about this book so far, and it seems very intriguing to me!

img_1137

As many of you are aware, “Again, But Better” by Christine Riccio is one of my most anticipated books of the year, and since it comes out in May, I obviously had to include it in this post! Christine Riccio (a.k.a. PolandBananas Books) is one of my favourite BookTubers, and the first one I ever watched. Therefore, I was ecstatic to receive an ARC from Raincoast Canada, and am unbelievably excited to read this one!!!

40591953

My last 5-star prediction of the Spring is “In the Neighborhood of True” by Susan Kaplan Carlton. While this book is scheduled to release in April, it is last on my list since I plan on reading it in May, as May is “Jewish History Month” in both Canada and the USA. I was beyond surprised to find a book that focuses on a Jewish teen girl that does not involve the Holocaust. Thanks to Algonquin Young Readers for an eARC of this novel!

img_1138

Since I have only featured four physical books, I thought that it would be smart to feature a “bonus” book that is on my TBR backlist. If you haven’t heard of “The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo” by Taylor Jenkins Reid, and are actively involved in the bookish online community, than you must be living under a rock (or in a book)! While I am not a big fan of books that focus on celebrities, I have heard fantastic things about this novel, and I hope to read it sometime this Spring!
