February Flurries: Ultimate Book Tag!

Hi everyone!

Today I’m going to be answering all of the questions in the ultimate book tag, although, I wasn’t tagged!

1. Do you get sick while reading in the car?

NEVER. Although, I have never read for so long that I might have gotten sick.

2. Which author’s writing style is completely unique to you and why?

The Shatter Me trilogy by Tahereh Mafi. Click here to see my review: https://readingreadingalldaylong.wordpress.com/2014/07/06/shatter-me-by-tahereh-mafi-book-review/

3. Harry Potter Series or the Twilight Saga? Give 3 points to defend your answer.

Harry Potter series all the way.

  • I’m not into vampires.
  • I’ve never read twilight.
  • I love magic.

4. Do you carry a book bag? If so, what is it in (besides books…)?

I used to bring a HUGE purse with AT LEAST one book, and other items that are fit for a purse (wallet, ipad, etc.).

5. Do you smell your books?

I like to do what all TRUE book lovers do, and that is to smell the pages.

6. Books with or without little illustrations?

I like small illustrations, ones that start at a chapter heading.

7. What book did you love while reading but discovered later it wasn’t quality writing?

Hmmm. I’m going to have to go with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, I still LOVE that book, but now it seems that the writing is a bit to childish.

8. Do you have any funny stories involving books from your childhood? Please share!

This actually happend last year, but I’ll share it anyways! So, as most of you know my ALL TIME FAVOURITE book series is The Land of Stories by Chris Colfer, and my favourite YA trilogy is Divergent by Veronica Roth. On July 8, 2014, both The Land of Stories: A Grimm Warning was coming out, as well as Four: A Divergent Collection. So, after my day at a day camp that I went to was over, my Dad took me to the nearest Indigo. As you can imagine, I was practically buzzing for energy and COULD NOT stand still. We arrive at the bookstore, and we make our way to the YA section, and there is FOUR: A DIVERGENT COLLECTION, and I snatched it right up! Next, we made our way to the middle grade section to grap TLOS 3! Although, I could NOT find it, so we bought Four, and I made my way crying to the car. I told my mom the situation, and she called the Indigo head offices. Turns out, that there was a problem across the border with getting the book and I would have to wait 2 WEEKS until I got it. The next day, my mom ended up finding a copy at a near buy local book store, and bought it for me! I WAS SO HAPPY! The End!

9. What is the thinnest book on your shelf?

The Giver by Lois Lowery.

10. What is the thickest book on your shelf?

Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix by J.K. Rowling.

11. Do you write as well as read? Do you see yourself in the future as being an author?

I write as well as read, and I will be posting some short stories in the future up soon! Although, I don’t plan on being an author, but I could see it happen in the slightest away.

12. When did you get into reading?

Since I was a Baby!

13. What is your favorite classic book?

I haven’t read a classic yet, but I guess it could be Night by Elie Wiesel.

14. In school was your best subject Language Arts/English?

Definitely, and by far it still is.

15. If you were given a book as a present that you had read before and hated…what would you do?

I would say thank you, and return it for another book.

16. What is a lesser known series that you know of that is similar to Harry Potter or the Hunger Games?

I don’t know!

17. What is a bad habit you always do (besides rambling) while filming?

I don’t flim, but I have a habit of writing of topic things!

18. What is your favorite word?

Supercalifragilisticexpealidocus.

19. Are you a nerd, dork, or dweeb? Or all of the above?

ALL OF THE ABOVE.

20. Vampires or Fairies? Why?

Fairies because I love magic!

21. Shapeshifters or Angels? Why?

Angels, I don’t know what shapeshifters are…

22. Spirits or Werewolves? Why?

Spirits, because I like mythology.

23. Zombies or Vampires?

Vampires because there pretty neat!

24. Love Triangle or Forbidden Love?

Love triangle, I want somebody to fall in love, rather then never!

25. AND FINALLY: Full on romance books or action-packed with a few love scenes mixed in?

Action packed romance, as my mom knows! I’m not into mushy-gushy love!

February Flurries: My Second Obsession!

Hey guys,

Today I’m going to be talking about my second obsession (besides books, of course), which is everything DISNEY!!

Since I have a book blog, I thought I would recommend a few of my favourite Walt Disney World travel books!

I have only read the 2014 version of this book, but I’m sure that the 2015 version is the same with minor differences. This book is my FAVOURITE out of all of these, which is pretty obvious because it’s the first on my list.

Same as the last book, I’ve only read the 2014 version, but I’m sure that the 2015 version is the same with minor differences.

My dad actually owns, this book but from a few years ago. I would recommend this book to EVERYONE as it is HUGE with a lot of information included.

Those are all of my Walt Disney World travel book recommendations. I hope you guys enjoyed this post!

Good Night Book Lions!

February Flurries: Science Has Great News for People Who Read Actual Books!

Hi everyone!

Today I’m going to be doing something a little bit different! I’m going to be reviewing a news article! This was originally a school article summary and reccomendation, but I felt like this article was a very interesting thing to post here as well!

Original Article: http://mic.com/articles/99408/science-has-great-news-for-people-who-read-actual-books

Summary (written in own words):

The news article “Science Has Great News for People Who Read Actual Books” written by Rachel Grate is an article that has astounding news for people who read on different formats. According to science, people who read physical books (printed on pages) have better reading comprehension. “Reading long, literary sentences sans links and distractions is actually a serious skill that you lose if you don’t use it. Before the Internet, the brain read in a linear fashion, taking advantage of sensory details to remember where key information was in the book by layout. ” says Scientists. A study was taken a few years ago, that asked adults to read a crime/mystery book on a kindle, vs. people who were asked to read a print copy. The researchers found that the people who  read on the kindle had a tendency to forget the order of the book, rather then the people who read it in print. The people who read it in print remembered all of the events that had taken place. What a miraculous discovery!

Review:

This article was SUPER interesting! As a book lover, who reads both e-book and physical book format, I found this article interesting. I never associate books with science until today. As well, I never really read articles about books, so this was a change for me! I recommend this article  to ANYONE, parents or children. This article made me realize that e-readers aren’t amazing for you, although through out some of it I disagreed. I am not a HUGE e-book reader, besides reviewing e-books for publishers or authors. Personally, I think that if I were to read the e-book in e-book version and in print, I would remember the same thing. Other then that, I enjoyed the article very much!

I hope that you guys enjoyed this little article review! See you tomorrow!

February Flurries: Forest of Reading & I Made A Book Club?!

Hi everyone!

During a few blog posts, I mentioned a program called “Forest of Reading”.

Forest of Reading, is an Ontario reading program, that encourages children of all ages to read more! I have participated since I was 8 years old, and I still thoroughly enjoy the program.

ANY Schools that are located in Ontario can participate, and order books for the program. Once the program is done, you can put those books in the shelves of your schools own library.

Official Website:  https://www.accessola.org/web/OLAWEB/Forest_of_Reading/Welcome

What are the levels?

Each grade has there own level, in which there are 2 clubs. You can choose Non-Fiction, Fiction or Both! This year I branched out and decided to do Non-Fiction, as I have a lot of my own fiction books to read! Also, as you can imagine, the Non-Fiction books are A LOT shorter then the fiction books.

Blue Spruce™ JK–grade 2 picture books
Silver Birch® Grades 3–6 fiction / non-fiction
Red Maple™
Grades 7–8 fiction, non-fiction (every other year)
White Pine™ Grades 9–12 fiction, non-fiction (every other year)
Le Prix Peuplier varies picture books
Le Prix Tamarac varies chapter books
Le Prix Tamarac Express varies shorter chapter books or mature picture books

In this program, the focus is reading books for all ages, that are made by Canadian Authors. Personally, I think this is a great idea for children in Grades 7-8, as when they go to high school, they may read a lot of classics and/or books written by canadian authors.

What Have I Read So Far?

I am participating in the Read Maple Selection.

So far, I have read 4 of the 10, non-fiction books:

We Are Canada by Rikia Saddy
The Last Train by Rona Arato
Growing Up, Inside and Out by Kira Vermond
Real Justice: Sentanced To Life at Seventeen: The Story of David Milgaard by Cynthia F.

I will have reviews up for these books soon!

What do you do at the end of the program?

At the end of the program, they hold a ceremony for the books, called the “Festival of Trees”. In which, they choose the most voted books and award them with the Forest of Reading Pick of “that year”. Some schools even go to the ceremony, unfortunatley my school never has.

How do you vote?

In order to vote, you must read at least 5 of the 10 books that were selected, and pick your favourites. The school will send the data to the program administrators, and they do all the rest!

I hope you enjoyed learning about the Forest of Reading Program!

BONUS:

I made a goodreads group/book club! Please join it, it would mean the world to me: https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/156785-reading-reading-reading-book-club! This month we are reading “The Lunar Chronicles” Series!

February Flurries: Bookshelf Tour!

Hi everyone!

This has probably been one of my MOST requested posts to do! So, I figured why not do it?

PLEASE READ: Before we get started, I’d like to let you all know that I have around 125 physical books, many were bought by my parents/family and I, while a few others I received for review! I am not bragging about how many books I have, I am just simply doing this because it is VERY HIGHLY requested!
Enjoy!

IMG_2645

Here is an overview of all of my books. I keep my library down in my basement, in a huge wall unit that goes all across the basement wall. My parents share this space with me, so I didn’t feel comfortable sharing the entire thing.

IMG_2636

This you do not see in the picture above, but I cleared off some space a few months ago for more books, but for now I have my childhood favourites on it.

IMG_2638

Here is my first shelve. On here, I store my all time favourite books, as well as popular series’ I have to read/complete.

IMG_2639

On the second shelf I have most of my hardback books, as well as my Harry Potter paperback-UK editions.

IMG_2640

On the third shelf, I have most of my smaller paperbacks, along with my fathers book holder that compresses my National Geographic Kids Almanacs, as well as my favourite non-fiction pieces.

IMG_2641

Underneath, is my last shelf, which includes my favourite middle grade books.

IMG_2642

On to the second shelf, which includes some of my favourite paperback books, along with 2 hard covers and a book that I was sent for review, called “The Only Boy” by Jordan Locke. On the very right, I have my Kobo e-reader, click here to see my review for it: https://readingreadingalldaylong.wordpress.com/2014/04/01/kobo-touch-review/

IMG_2643

Next we have paperback books that are on my TBR, as well as a collection of books I was sent for review. Hiding on the right is “The Giver” by Lois Lowery.

IMG_2644

Lastly, but certainly not least, I have some more of my TBR paperback books, as well as my favourite Disney picture books, and a fairy tale retelling series.

This concludes my book shelf tour for the begining of 2015. I hope to do one of these each year, to see how my book shelf has changed! If you want to know a specific books title, include the number of the picture (count all of the pictures until you get to that one), and try to count the book it is by starting from the left, and counting until you reach that books number. Leave that info in the comments below, and I will be sure to get back to you ASAP!

February Flurries: In My Library!

Hi everyone!

Today I’m going to be posting something that I’ve wanted to get to for a while! I haven’t seen many of these, but I figured I would do one! Today, I am going to be showing you a tour of my Library!

I live in Vaughan, ON and I’m going to be showing you thru one of my most frequent Library’s that I go to. It’s called the Vaughan Library: Bathurst Clark Resource Center!

bc

This is what it looks like on the outside! All other pictures were taken by me, approximately 3 weeks ago.

IMG_2545

This is what it looks like when you walk in through the front doors. On the stands, you will find featured books, that relate to the season or time of month. They also could be New Releases that the library just bought! And, section in the back is ALL of the YA books!

IMG_2546

Right when you turn around the corner, you will see this self! It is dedicated to on Sale Books! Hardcovers are $1.00, and paperbacks are $0.25! Movies and CD’s are about $2.00-$3.00! This is a great way to get some great bargains on books, while still supporting your local Library!

IMG_2541

If you walk a few steps after that, you will see an AWESOME Water Bottle Re-Filling station! This may not be book related, but I just HAD to include this cool feature!

IMG_2508

Now what you’re all waiting for! Here is the YA/Teen area! It includes benches and desks in the middle. I would’ve taken a picture of them, but there were people doing work on them.
