Alyssa’s Reviews – Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon

Hi everyone!

Today I am going to be sharing with you my thoughts and opinions on the novel “Everything, Everything” by Nicola Yoon. I had been meaning to read this novel forever ago, but didn’t have the time to. When I saw that this novel was only $2.99 on the Kobo bookstore, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to buy it and read it on my e-reader. And that is exactly what I did!

Synopsis (Goodreads):

My disease is as rare as it is famous. Basically, I’m allergic to the world. I don’t leave my house, have not left my house in seventeen years. The only people I ever see are my mom and my nurse, Carla.
But then one day, a moving truck arrives next door. I look out my window, and I see him. He’s tall, lean and wearing all black—black T-shirt, black jeans, black sneakers, and a black knit cap that covers his hair completely. He catches me looking and stares at me. I stare right back. His name is Olly.
Maybe we can’t predict the future, but we can predict some things. For example, I am certainly going to fall in love with Olly. It’s almost certainly going to be a disaster.

Review:

This book was excellent, and by far one of the best books I have read this year. From the beginning I was hooked on the story, and it only took me about two days to read it. Do any of you find that when you are reading a book on an e-reader/iPad, you tend to read the book a lot faster than you would if it was on paper?

Both of the main characters in this novel – Madeline and Olly – were very loveable and kind. You could tell that Olly genuinely cared for Madeline and that was wonderful to see, especially in YA romance/contemporary. I also loved Madeline’s caregiver/nurse, and I thought that she added another “mother-like” figure to the novel. Of course, Olly’s father had me nervous from the start, but if you read the novel you will see what happens to him! Madeline’s mother is a completely different story though. I really did thank that she was nice and a great mother to her, but at the end we find out who she really was.

Speaking of the ending… OH BOY THAT ENDING! I definitely did not see that coming, and I don’t think many readers (who didn’t get spoiled!) expected that either. What a turn of events!

Overall, I loved this book and gave it 5/5 stars.
