Alyssa’s Reviews – Me Being Me is Exactly As Insane as You Being You by Todd Hasak-Lowy (ARC)

Hey guys!

Today, I’m going to be writing a book review for the book Me Being Me is Exactly as Insane as You Being You by Todd Hasak-Lowy! I recieved this book for review from Simon and Schuster Canada for an honest review.

22456952

Synopsis:

A heartfelt, humorous story of a teen boy’s impulsive road trip after the shock of his lifetime—told entirely in lists!
Darren hasn’t had an easy year.
There was his parents’ divorce, which just so happened to come at the same time his older brother Nate left for college and his longtime best friend moved away. And of course there’s the whole not having a girlfriend thing.
Then one Thursday morning Darren’s dad shows up at his house at 6 a.m. with a glazed chocolate doughnut and a revelation that turns Darren’s world inside out. In full freakout mode, Darren, in a totally un-Darren move, ditches school to go visit Nate. Barely twenty-four hours at Nate’s school makes everything much better or much worse—Darren has no idea. It might somehow be both. All he knows for sure is that in addition to trying to figure out why none of his family members are who they used to be, he’s now obsessed with a strangely amazing girl who showed up out of nowhere but then totally disappeared.
Told entirely in lists, Todd Hasak-Lowy’s debut YA novel perfectly captures why having anything to do with anyone, including yourself, is:
1. painful
2. unavoidable
3. ridiculously complicated
4. possibly, hopefully the right thing after all.

Review:

I really enjoyed this book!

I personally loved making lists and this book was full of them! I was really touched by his story. Family issues have never been impacted by major family issues, but it was very interesting to see a different point of view. Personally, this book was a very big eye opener to me. Although, this book was a little bit slow for me, but overall it was well paced.

Since this book is full of lists, it was a very quick read for me, although it looks HUGE. The cover is really cute and I really like it. The writing style is (ofcourse) very unique with all of the lists. Some of the lists did not relate to the story, but it made the book even more interesting to read as you can learn more about him.

The characters are really interesting and great! I especially liked to learn more about the mother and her back-story.

Overall:

I really loved this book and gave it 5/5 stars!

I hope you guys enjoyed this book review!
Thank you to Simon and Schuster Canada for sending me an ARC for this book! Be sure to grab your copy now!’

DIY Bookish Mugs!

Hey guys!

Today, I’m going to be showing you some design’s that you can make all by yourself, using only a few materials to create your very own bookish mug!

PLEASE READ: I am only using these mugs for decor and storage, so I did not use oil based sharpies or bake it in the oven. I will not be drinking out of this mug.

Materials:

  • Blank/White Mug
  • Sharpies (I used Black and Silver)
  • Pencil

First, I purchased a white mug (I actually got 2) from my nearest Dollar store. They were $1.25 each.

IMG_3168

I then sketched out my designs with a pencil first. I used an HB pencil, but I’m sure others would work, too! Feel free to get inspiration Online.

IMG_3173

Finally, I outlined my mug’s, and here is how the first one turned out! For the front side, I drew an open book with a picture in the right corner! By the picture you can’t tell, but I used the silver sharpie for outlining the “words” (squiggly lines” and picture.

IMG_3176

On the back of the previous mug, I included my favourite bookish quotes! Here are the ones I used:

  • Books belong to their readers.
  • Everybody should believe in something, I believe I’ll read the next chapter.
  • You can’t buy happiness, but you can buy books, and that’s kind of the same thing!

IMG_3177

For my second mug, I wrote the word “Reading” all the way around it, and coloured the outer part of the handle in a thick silver sharpie, a well as the dots.

I hope you enjoyed my DIY Bookish Mugs! Many of you seem to love my diy’s, and if you do stay tuned to my Easter bookmark DIY! I worked really hard on these mugs, and it definitely payed off!

Anyone who will be celebrating Passover tonight, Happy Pesach (Passover)!

Also, I wanted to answer a VERY popular question I get asked almost every time I make a DIY and take pictures. This question is; “What camera do you use for your pictures?” Surprisingly, I actually just use my iPad Mini 2nd Generation! I like to “enhance” my photos and mix up a ton of pictures so that the quality looks gorgeous. I have the WordPress app for iPad downloaded, so I upload my pictures in a draft post, and then I can access them by clicking the “Add Media” section once I do a post with them!

I will see you guys tomorrow for a new post!

Good Night Book Lions!

Good Night Book Lions!

April TBR!

Hi everyone!

I can’t believe how fast March has gone by, it feels like just yesterday it was March 1! Today, I’m going to be sharing with you my April TBR! Now, my TBR is not quite set in stone, but these are the books I hope to read!

IMG_3034First, I hope to read Walking on Trampolines by Frances Whiting. I was gladly sent a review copy by Simon and Schuster Canada! I have actually had this book on my TBR for about 2 months, but I WILL be reading it, as I have planned out a review date for next week, so it MUST be read!

Next, I will indulge into this book, which is one of my most anticipated books of the year! I am so excited to start reading The Wicked Will Rise by Danielle Paige (DMD #2). STORY TIME: I actually was planning on buying this the day that it came out, but the only book store that DID’NT have it was mine! What great luck I have…

I received this beautiful ARC last month from Penguin Canada and I’m so excited to dive into it! Like It Never Happened by Emily Adrian, sounds like a book that is right up my ally, so I’m pretty sure I’ll enjoy it! Also, once I finish this book, I will be officially finished all of my ARC’s, but by the time I have finished this, I probably will have another one…

I will then be reading To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han, so that I will be prepared for the final book in this duolgy next month when it releases! I may be getting an ARC for the next one, so we will see how that turns out! Also, the next book comes out the day before my Birthday!

Finally, I will be reading my Book Club/Goodread’s Groups’ BOTM, which I will be announcing tommorow! Join the group here: https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/156785-reading-reading-reading-book-club

So, yeah! That’s it for April’s TBR. I feel like I will be getting a lot of reading done this month, and I hope that’s true!

See you guys tomorrow!

Good Night Book Lions!

March Wrap-Up!

Hi everyone and welcome back!

It has felt like I haven’t been posting for a week and a half, but I scheduled the 10 previous posts 10 days ago, so this is my first time “live” blogging in almost 2 weeks!

Anyways, this month was a good month for me. I only read for the first 2 weeks of March and yesterday, but then kind of took a reading break to really focus on school work!

This month, I read 5 books, which I am quite happy about!

22456952

I started off the month by finishing Me Being Me Is Exactly As Insane As You Being You by Todd Hasak-Lowy! I don’t want to give my thoughts away, as my review will be up in a few days!

19290513

Next, I read Hit by Delilah S. Dawson! Again, my review will be up soon, so I don’t want to give away any of my thoughts!

9375189

Then, I read Sea Change by Diane Tullson, which I really liked and gave 4/5 stars! See my review here: https://readingreadingalldaylong.wordpress.com/2015/03/27/sea-change-by-diane-tullson/

42856

I then read Hopes and Dreams by Steve Dougherty, for a project I’m doing Barack Obama on. I have gotten a lot of questions as to why I chose President Obama for my project when I am Canadian, but I thought that he would be an interesting choice.
