Quick Thought #14: Things I Learned From Books

Hi guys!

Today I’m going to be writing my 14 Quick Thought! I didn’t realize that I have done that many! The topic for today is things that I have learned from books. I pre-think my blog post topics weeks/months in advance, and I guess that when I wrote down this one, I didn’t realize how broad of a topic this was!

The first thing that I learned from books was common sense, or at least how important it is to have it (cough cough **ALL YA DYSTOPIANS**Cough cough)… Many characters in YA books DO NOT have common sense. I know a lot of people who make certain decisions, in which they are not using common sense. Those are the “I know I’ll never do that” moments, and common sense in books is one of them!

Now for a more serious one, I learned that you really have to think about a decisions before you do it! This is seen in many books…Allegiant… There are many repercussions even in fiction books, so you better watch out for that in the real world!

I have also learned that Self-Confidence is key to a happy life. If you are confident about the things you say, wear, and do, then you will have a happy life. This is probably a key point because one of my favourite parts to look for in a book is Character Development. In some cases, it’s almost like watching a baby grow from day 1 to day 365!

So, that was a small snippet into what YA books have thought me thus far. If you would like me to expand on these ideas or do a part 2, let me know in the comments below!

Alyssa’s Reviews – Hit by Delilah S. Dawson (ARC)

Hi everyone!

Today, I’m going to be reviewing Hit by Delilah S. Dawson!

DISCLAIMER: I received an ARC copy from Simon and Schuster Canada, for an honest review. No opinions are persuaded because of this!

NO ONE READS THE FINE PRINT.

The good news is that the USA is finally out of debt. The bad news is that we were bought out by Valor National Bank, and debtors are the new big game, thanks to a tricky little clause hidden deep in the fine print of a credit card application. Now, after a swift and silent takeover that leaves 9-1-1 calls going through to Valor voicemail, they’re unleashing a wave of anarchy across the country.

Patsy didn’t have much of a choice. When the suits showed up at her house threatening to kill her mother then and there for outstanding debt unless Patsy agreed to be an indentured assassin, what was she supposed to do? Let her own mother die?

Patsy is forced to take on a five-day mission to complete a hit list of ten names. Each name on Patsy’s list has only three choices: pay the debt on the spot, agree to work as a bounty hunter, or die. And Patsy has to kill them personally, or else her mom takes a bullet of her own.

Since yarn bombing is the only rebellion in Patsy’s past, she’s horrified and overwhelmed, especially as she realizes that most of the ten people on her list aren’t strangers. Things get even more complicated when a moment of mercy lands her with a sidekick: a hot rich kid named Wyatt whose brother is the last name on Patsy’s list. The two share an intense chemistry even as every tick of the clock draws them closer to an impossible choice.

Delilah S. Dawson offers an absorbing, frightening glimpse at a reality just steps away from ours—a taut, suspenseful thriller that absolutely mesmerizes from start to finish.

THIS BOOK….

AMAZING. I absolutely loved this book! The concept is just so amazing.

The characters were spectacular! Unlike most Dystopian YA Books, Patsy (The Main Character) had a lot of common sense, which is not commonly seen in YA books.

The setting was SO creative! Although, it is set in our world, it has a mysterious flow to it. It goes very well with the plot. Especially the area that Patsy is. The area fits very well with the plot, as it seems that most of the people are poor, and cannot pay the exponential fines that the government has entrusted with them.

Now for my favourite part, THE PLOT. It was so rich and fine with detail. It was also a very unique idea, that is rare to find in YA Dystopians!

Overall:

I really loved this book, and would recommend it to all teens! 5/5 gold stars for sure 🙂

I hope that you guys enjoyed this review! Be sure to pick up Hit, it is officially in stores TODAY!

See you all tomorrow!

Cover Reveal: The Land of Stories: Beyond The Kingdoms

Hi everyone!

Last year, I did a cover reveal for The Land Of Stories: A Grimm Warning (TLOS 3) (https://readingreadingalldaylong.wordpress.com/2014/02/22/the-land-of-stories-3-cover-reveal/), and I thought that it would be fun to do one for the next installment!

Today, Chris Colfer announced via Twitter the COVER AND TITLE! The cover released last February for the 3 book, and I believe we knew the title of TLOS 3 in November/December. So, this time it was a little later! Although, according to Little Brown Publishing, the book will be out one day before TLOS 3, which will be July 7, 2015! I’m so excited! This book will also be the longest in the series, which is 560 pages. Which will be AMAZING!

Now for the cover, I think it is the best one BY FAR. My second favourite is definitely TLOS 2:

The purple and the eyes to this one are so eye catching.

TLOS 4, is by far my favourite cover, as for what I can gather about this upcoming book! My 5 favourite Fairy Tales are: The Wizard of Oz, Robin Hood, Alice in Wonderland, Merlin, and Peter Pan. Most of the titles mentioned are similar to all of The Land Of Stories Books, as the main charcters fall/go into a different world, related to Magic and Fairy’s. That’s probably why I love TLOS so much, as nearly ALL fairy tales are incorporated, and they fall into a book! What more could I ask for? I definitley think that this book will be the best, as they are exploring “beyond the kingdoms”. I wonder where this land may fall on the map, or if it will be on there at all!

The title is so clever, as it really relates to the content. Plus, it’s really catchy!

As VERY requested, I will be doing a TLOS 4 predictions, as I have some really great ideas for what this book may have in store, according to the cover and title (by then, we will probably also have a goodreads synopsis). But, don’t look out for that until the end of June or even the Week that TLOS 4 releases!

That’s it for today’s post! I hope you love my The Land Of Stories related posts, as much as I love writing them!

My Mailbox #1: Simon and Schuster Canada!

Hey guys!

Today, I’m going to be sharing with you what I got in my Mailbox this week, as far as books go! I will be doing this every so often, as there are certain times in a month when I get a ton of books from publishers, or order them online. These will be similar to my “oh so beloved” book hauls!

This week, I received a package from my favourite publishing house Simon and Schuster Canada!

Fun Fact: Simon and Schuster Canada, was the first publishing house I have ever recieved books from! I started receiving ARCs in April 2014. My blog was only about 5 months old, so I was thrilled to get books for “free“.

The First ARC I received in this package was…

Three Day Summer

Three Day Summer by Sarvenaz Tash. This book sounds AMAZING, and if you think this cover is beautiful, you MUST see it in real life! I’m sure that it will be even prettier in hardcover (if that’s humanely possible)! This book is set to come out on May 19, 2015.

Galgorithm

The next and final book I received was Galgorithm by Aaron Karo! This book sounds right up my allie and down right spectacular! This book is set to come out on May 5, 2015.

Those are all of the lovely books I received in the mail this week! I will have a review up for them on the day that they come out, so mark your calenders! Be sure to let me know what books you bought/received this week & if you would like to see more “My Mailbox” posts!
