Quick Thought 002: Can I still read YA, even if I’m not a teenager?

Today, I thought I would tackle the big reading question.

Can I still read YA, even if I’m not a teenager? ABSOLUTELY!

Although YA is somewhat read by Young Adults, books are for everyone! I still read a few middle grade books and I am a teen! Nobody will care. Some YA books have a deeper meaning then some adult books.

And if you really want me to say this, at least you are reading!

So my answer is YES.

Toronto International Book Fair 2014: Experience!

Hi everyone!

This will be my Inspire! Toronto International Book Fair post! I went on Saturday, November 15, 2014. I had an amazing time at this event and hope to go again next year!

When coming up for the first time, you will see a beautiful ceiling decoration filled with alphabetical letters!

IMG_1987.JPG

Once you come up the escalator onto the TIBF floor, there is a huge entrance sign, that is full of bright colours and fun!

IMG_1990.JPG

Once entering, you will see many different sections! This section was the TIBF national pavilion, filled with religious books and Canadian souvenirs.

IMG_1907.JPG

As you can imagine, there is tons of holidays items, such as, Recipes and Christmas ornaments/trinkets.

IMG_1963.JPG

There is even an Ontario farm booth, where there is a cute little duck and you can even take pictures with him!

IMG_1955.JPG

They also had many wonderful indie speakers!

IMG_1974.JPG

As well, there were many wonderful authors, including Kathy Rechies, who is the writer for the “Bones” book series. The Bones TV series was inspired by her books.

IMG_1945.JPG

They also had amazing health and fitness speakers, such as Tosca Reno.

IMG_1950.JPG

This was a poster found in the Penguin Books section. They were advertising this book, and even had samples of a few of the recipes that you could taste. My mother really enjoyed the small granola bars.

IMG_1915.JPG

In the DK books section, they had a lego figure of Master Yoda, from Star Wars! It was huge!

IMG_1909.JPG

They even had some adorable “Book-ish Swag” magnets and cards! This one was by far, my favorite!

IMG_1908.JPG

As you can imagine, they had some amazing publishing houses, such as Scholastic!

IMG_1966.JPG

They also had many other groups, such as Simon and Schuster! I was so happy to meet Michelle Blackwell at the Simon and Schuster booth! I correspond with her often and she is such a lovely person!

IMG_1933.JPG

After each event took place, authors had a book signing! This was the long line up for Anne Rice!

IMG_1968.JPG

After an amazing and long day at the TIBF, it was time to leave! I had such an amazing time!

Bye, Bye TIBF! See you next year!

Alyssa’s Reviews – Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret. By Judy Blume

Hi Book Lovers!

I haven’t done a book review since JULY! I wanted to make a new one and I thought this would be a perfect book to write a review on! I bought this book yesterday and devoured it! I read it in one day and thought it was amazing! I gave it a 5/5 stars on goodreads! Let’s hop in to this review!

Never heard of this book? NO Problem! (summary by GoodReads.com):

Margaret Simon, almost twelve, has just moved from New York City to the suburbs, and she’s anxious to fit in with her new friends. When she’s asked to join a secret club she jumps at the chance. But when the girls start talking about boys, bras, and getting their first periods, Margaret starts to wonder if she’s normal. There are some things about growing up that are hard for her to talk about, even with her friends. Lucky for Margaret, she’s got someone else to confide in… someone who always listens.

Plot Line:
I thought that the plot was amazing and in my opinion this is a must read for teens! Although, you may think that this book is about puberty and religion, the bigger picture is helping Margaret find who she really is.

Characters:
There are many main characters in this book.
Margaret is our protagonist and is a loving twelve year old girl.
Her grandmother, Sylvia, is a great role model for Margaret and is so caring for her. I thought she made a great touch to this story.
Nancy is Margaret’s best friend, but is quite annoying and is quite the little snoop!

Setting:
This book takes place in a small town in the New Jersey sub-urbs. Margaret has lived in “the big apple”, New York, for the majority of her life. So, it takes time for Margaret to get used to it.

Overall:
I overall loved this book and (like I previously mentioned) gave it a 5/5 stars! It was amazing and is a must read for teens!

Quick Thought #1: Introduction

Hey guys!

I have noticed that there have been several current events going on in the world, and I would love to share my thoughts and opinions with you. That is why I am creating a “Quick Thought” series on my blog!

I will try to post one quick thought every few weeks, and I would love some feedback on them!

Disclaimers:

If you thought on my blog all we would talk about is books, then your are wrong. Reading means several different things, like, reading an an article or even a blurb on the daily news!

When doing “Quick Thoughts” they will be my personal opinions and thoughts. You may disagree with me, but you should know that there is more then 1 side to every story!

I hope that you guys will find these interesting! I will also have a “page” on the search bar where you can access all of them!

Weekly Reading Plans

Hey guys!

Sorry for being MIA! I have had so much home work and a test every week or so! I’m going to schedule a few new blog posts for the next few days so you guys aren’t hanging for a new one!

Aswell if you read the blog post that I posted last week, it said that I’m starting a new blog but I have deleted that as I’m now going to continue working on this one only and try to improve it as much as I can.

I have a few books that I have to complete to work on a “book genres” project, so I have chosen these to read for it!

Biography:
I’m planning on reading a Helen Keller biography by Leslie Garett. I have had this book for quite a while, but have not read it. So, I thought this was the perfect time to read it!

Fiction:
For this genre I’m going to be reading 172 hours on the moon! Did you know that this book was translated from another language into English? To find out about the book and more interesting facts about it watch JesseTheReaders video on it! Click here to watch it: JesseTheReaders Review.

Realistic Fiction:
For this genre I have chose, The Book Theif by Marcus Zusak! One of my favourite booktubers, Catorina (from LittleBookOwl) has a raving review on it, that I promise will convince you to read it! Click here to watch it: LittleBookOwls Review.

That’s it for tonight’s blog post!
Love you guys!

Alyssa’s Reviews – Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher

Hey guys!

Welcome to my review of Thirteen Reasons Why!
I finished this book last week and ADORED it!

Summary (Via Goodreads):
Clay Jensen returns home from school to find a mysterious box with his name on it lying on his porch. Inside he discovers thirteen cassette tapes recorded by Hannah Baker, his classmate and crush who committed suicide two weeks earlier.
On tape, Hannah explains that there are thirteen reasons why she decided to end her life. Clay is one of them. If he listens, he’ll find out how he made the list.
Through Hannah and Clay’s dual narratives, debut author Jay Asher weaves an intricate and heartrending story of confusion and desperation that will deeply affect teen readers.

Plot:
The plot and overall summary of this book was really intriguing to me. I then found out that a lot of book bloggers had read it and really enjoyed it, so I thought I would give it a go!
This book was even better then what people were saying! The overall writing style of this book was unlike anything I had ever read before!

Character:
I thought that Clay Jensen was an out standing character in this book. You could tell that he was very kind and didn’t want to hurt a sole.
Although, Hannah Baker was another story. I thought that Hannah said very silly and non-thought through things on her tapes. Hannah was interesting. I loved her stories and the way that Clay further explained them.

Overall Thoughts:
I absolutely adored this book and it’s guide lines. The writing style captured the essence of Jay Asher’s story. Rating: 5/5 stars!

That’s my review!

Friday Reads {08/15}

Sorry for not posting everyday this week! I tried to think about posts that are easy to write but I just got my braces on ad let’s just say they are very uncomfortable. Although, to make up for that I have a book review that is going up tomorrow, so look out for that!

This weekend, all I plan on reading is Entwined by Heather Dixon. Entwined, is a fairytale retelling of my all time favourite fairytale: The Twelve Dancing Princesses.

I will probably end up finishing this during the Bout of Books 11.0 readathon, which starts this Monday (August 18). I will be posting my TBR for this readathon on Sunday!

That’s it for today!
