Read-EH-Thon TBR

Welcome back to Reading, Reading, Reading!

It feels like I just posted a TBR recently, doesn’t it? 😉

The Read-EH-Thon is a Canadian inspired readathon hosted by an abundance of Canadian book influencers! Personally, I discovered this readathon last year, as it is hosted by BooksandLala, one of my all-time favourite BookTubers. The Read-EH-Thon challenges you to read as many books, written by Canadian authors, as you can. There is also a bingo card that features 16 challenges, with the goal of you completing 4, meaning you would have a “BINGO”! However, I am on a book buying ban for the month of August (just wait until you see my next book haul…), so I have decided to compile my TBR by choosing books written by Canadian authors, regardless of if they complete a challenge or not. Nonetheless, the bingo card is below!

Some of the books I have chosen happen to fit some of the prompts/challenges, but some of them do not.

img_7685

The first book I plan on reading for the Read-EH-Thon is The End Of Her by Shari Lapena. I pre-ordered this book a few weeks before it came out, and it just released on July 23! I have read Lapena’s previous novel The Couple Next Door, and while I did not love the ending, I loved her writing immensely and decided to give her newest novel a chance. This one is a domestic thriller, which are my absolute favourite type of thrillers to read, so I hope I love this one! This book completes the challenge of having nature on the cover.

img_7682

The next book I hope to read for the readathon is Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel. I initially had this one on my Reading Rush TBR, but ultimately decided to wait for this readathon to read it, as Mandel is a proud Canadian! I have heard nothing but phenomenal things about this novel, and I hope it lives up to all of the hype! This book completes the challenge of reading a book that was nominated for a Canadian book award.

img_7683

I then hope to read The Swap by Robyn Harding. I had no idea that Harding was a Canadian author, but I was thrilled to find that out after I purchased this novel! As I shared above, I love domestic thrillers, and I believe this book revolves around two couples who swap partners. I have heard that this book is incredibly entertaining and fact paced, which will make it a great pick to read for this readathon!

img_7684

Next, I hope to read Saints and Misfits by S.K. Ali. I read Ali’s 2019 publication, Love From A To Z, which I loved, so I hope to enjoy this one just as much! This book completes the challenge of reading an Immigrant/Refugee story.

img_7681

The second last book I hope to read for the readathon is What My Sister Knew by Nina Laurin. Nina Laurin is one of my favourite thriller authors, and this is her 2018 release. I picked it up last year after reading The Starter Wife, but never got around to it. I hope enjoy this one as much as I have enjoyed her last two novels!

img_7679

The last book I hope to read for the Read-EH-Thon is The Very, Very Far North by Dan Bar-El. I received an ARC of this book from Simon and Schuster Canada quite a while ago, but never got around to it. I am normally not someone who requests children’s/early reader/middle grade novels, but I believe this one is supposed to be an adaption of Winnie The Poo, which sounds great to me! This book completes the challenge of reading a Canadian children’s book.

img_7678

Those are all of the books I hope to read for the Read-EH-Thon! I don’t think I will be able to get to all six of these books, but if I get to four, I will be really happy with my reading for the week! Are you participating in this Canadian readathon?!

The Reading Rush 2020 TBR!

Welcome back to Reading, Reading, Reading!

The Reading Rush (formerly known as the BookTubeAThon) is happening from July 20-26, and is hosted by Ariel Bisset and Raeleen LeMay! I have participated in this readathon for several years (click here to see my 2019 TBR post), and am most excited and prepared for this one! In order to help you pick out your TBR, the hosts have created reading challenges for you to participate in. I do not think I will be able to read seven books this upcoming week, but I have chosen six to attempt to read!

img_7538

Challenge #1: Read a book with a cover that matches the colour of your birth stone.

My birthday is on May 27, therefore my birthstone is an emerald! For this challenge, I have chosen the book Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel. I know this book is mostly dark blue, but the spine and the entire back cover are green, and since I really want to read this one, I am going to count it for this challenge!

img_7541

Challenge #2: Read a book that starts with the word “The”.

For this challenge, I have chosen the book The Female of the Species by Mindy McGinnis. I purchased this book from Book Outlet two years ago, and never ended up picking it up before 2019 was over. I have heard phenomenal things about this one, and hope it lives up to my expectations!

img_7543

Challenge #3: Read a book that inspired a movie you’ve already seen.

I watched the movie adaptation of All The Bright Places by Jennifer Niven on Netflix a few months ago, just because I could not wait to watch the movie since I thought the trailer looked so good! Looking back, I should have read the book first, especially because I enjoyed the movie so much. I bought this book over 4 years ago, and started it (I think I got around 50 pages into it) but never finished it. I am really, really excited to read this one!

img_7542

Challenge #4: Read the first book you touch.

For this challenge, I closed my eyes and reached out to a random book on my TBR shelf, and I’m Thinking of Ending Things by Iain Reid was the one I touched! I picked this book up because of Kat’s recommendation in one of her PaperbackDreams videos, and while I know nothing about this one, I have heard that it is very eery and creepy, which makes me incredibly intrigued by it! This book is the shortest book on my Reading Rush TBR, so I may leave this one until the last day to read!

Challenge #5: Read a book completely outside of your house.

This challenge is definitely my least favourite one, as it is asking participants to read outside of your house… during a pandemic. Plus, in most places in North America, we are in the thick of summer weather and it is incredibly hot outside. For this challenge, I will try to read one of the books I have already selected in a different spot than I usually read in.

img_7544

Challenge #6: Read a book in a genre that you’ve always wanted to read more of.

For this challenge, I have selected Stamped From The Beginning by Ibram X. Kendi. I have been wanting to read more Non-Fiction books that revolve around racial history, and I think that this one is a good book to start off with. I have been trying my best to read one chapter of this book everyday, and I will be continuing to do that into the Reading Rush!

img_7537

Challenge #7: Read a book that takes place on a different continent than where you live.

For the final Reading Rush challenge, I have chosen I Know You Know by Gilly MacMillan. This book takes place in Bristol, located in Europe, which is on a different continent than where I live (I’m in North America). I wanted to include a pure mystery/thriller novel in this TBR, and this one fit perfectly for this challenge! I have read some mixed reviews on this book, but recently people seem to be enjoying it.

Those are all of the books I hope to read for the 2020 edition of the Reading Rush! If you are participating and have a TBR post or video, leave a link to it in the comments and I will be sure to check it out!

The Reading Rush 2019 TBR

Welcome back to Reading, Reading, Reading!

The biggest readathon on the internet, The Reading Rush (formally known as BookTubeaThon), is starting tomorrow and ending on July 28! I have been participating in this readathon since it began, and I look forward to participating in it this time around! This readathon includes several different reading challenges, and here are all of the books I plan to read to accomplish them! Click here to add me as a friend on The Reading Rush website!

img_3563

CHALLENGE #1: Read a book with purple on the cover.

For this first challenge, I plan to read WITH THE FIRE ON HIGH by Elizabeth Acevado. Obviously, the background cover for this book is purple, and I am SO excited to read it! I will say, I feel like I was the only person that didn’t absolutely love The Poet X (her debut novel), so I am interested to see my thoughts on it.

img_3557

CHALLENGE #2: Read a book in the same spot for the entire time.

For the second challenge, I plan on reading DUMPLIN by Julie Murphy! I have been wanting to read this book since I attended my first ever HCC Frenzy Presents event, and hope to get around to it during this readathon! Even though this book isn’t super short, I plan on reading it in my backyard this week.

img_3561

CHALLENGE #3: Read a book you meant to read last year.

I have decided to read GIRL MADE OF STARS by Ashley Herring Blake for this challenge! Ever since hearing Kayla’s thoughts on this book, I have been dying to read it.

img_3556

CHALLENGE #4: Read an authors debut novel.

Can you believe that THE SILENT PATIENT is Alex Michaelides’ debut novel?! I was shocked to find this out, since everybody has been raving over it for the past several months!

img_3553

CHALLENGE #5: Read a book with a non-human main character.

This was by far the hardest challenge to chose a book for! I heard from a friend that THIS SAVAGE SONG by Victoria Schwab has a main character that is a monster, so I figured this would work perfectly for this challenge.

img_3563

CHALLENGE #6: Read a book with 5 or more words in the title.

I am reading WITH THE FIRE ON HIGH for this challenge as well as the first one!

img_3557

CHALLENGE #7: Read and watch a book-to-movie adaptation.

I am reading DUMPLIN for the challenge as well as challenge #2! My mom has both read this book and watched the movie, and I hope to do so this weekend!

Those are all of the books I plan to read for The Reading Rush this week! Are you participating? If so, tell me what you plan on reading in the comments! ALSO, add me as a friend on TheReadingRush.com by clicking this link!

Dewey’s 24-Hour Readathon TBR

Welcome back to Reading, Reading, Reading!

In about one hour (8:00 AM EST), Dewey’s 24-Hour Readathon will begin! I have participated in a few of these before, and really enjoyed doing them! While I definitely won’t be reading for all 24-hours (if you are reading this before 10 AM, I am probably still sleeping!), I will try my very best to read every minute possible today and tonight (although, I do have work tomorrow morning).

Since this readathon is only one-day long, I am not exactly sure how much I will be able to read. I have created a small TBR that I hope to semi-complete, filled with only two books, both of which were featured in my WWW Wednesday post.

img_1139

The first book I plan on reading during the readathon is “Love & Other Curses” by Michael Thomas Ford. I received this ARC back in December from HarperCollins Canada/HCC Frenzy, but it is not set to release until just next week! Since this one has been on my shelf for so long, I’m really excited to finally read it!

img_1135

While I technically have another ARC to read that comes out before this one, I cannot wait any longer to read this one!! I am SO excited to finally read “You Must Not Miss” by Katrina Leno. This will be my first Katrina Leno book, but I know a lot of you have loved her previous books, which is making me even more eager to read this one! I don’t know much about this book, other than the fact that it is a thriller about a girl. Thanks to Hachette Book Group Canada for sending me an ARC!

Those are the two books I hope to complete for Dewey’s 24-Hour Readathon! If you want to participate, sign up here. Are you joining in on this iconic readathon? If so, let me know what you are reading in the comments! I will be updating you on my progress on both my Instagram and Twitter throughout the day, so make sure you are following me on both of those platforms! I will also have my complete wrap-up post up tomorrow afternoon!

Fierce Female Reads Readathon TBR!

Hi everybody and welcome back to Reading, Reading, Reading!

Ashely from Falling Down The Book Hole is hosting the first ever Fierce Female Reads Readathon with the help of a few other fantastic bloggers (including myself)! It starts today on February 15th, and is running until the last day of the month – February 28th. If you are planning on participating in the readathon, sign up here! The Fierce Female Readathon is all about reading books written by fierce female authors or fierce female characters. There are six challenges that you can follow when selecting your TBR books for this readathon, or you can chose your own fierce female books! The challenges are listed in the graphic below!

thumbnail_fierce female readathon-2

I have chosen a book for each of the categories, but I highly doubt that I will be able to read seven books in the next 14 days!

img_0415

The book we have selected as our group read is Moxie by Jennifer Mathieu. I will be posting my full review for this book on Feb. 17, and I am so excited to share all of my thoughts on it with you! Therefore, I have actually already read the novel and won’t be reading it during the readathon. However, I encourage you to read Moxie along with the group, and I look forward to reading all of your thoughts on the novel!

img_0365

The first challenge for this readathon is to read a book with women/girl in the title. I am sort of cheating for this one, as I am picking a book with female names in the title (I hope that’s ok!). The first book I plan on reading is “Rayne & Delilah’s Midnite Matinee” by Jeff Zentner! The first thing that drew me into this book was obviously the beautiful cover, but the premise seems very interesting. Apparently there is a lot of humour in this book, and I can’t wait to read it! Thanks to Penguin Teen Canada for this ARC!

The second challenge for the FFR is to read a book written by a women of colour. For this challenge, I have chosen “Internment” by Samira Ahmed. This book is a fictional story based on what is happening at the boarders in the United States of America. While I am a proud Canadian citizen, I think that this story and the real events that are going on at the boarders in the USA are so important and need to be spoken about more. Words cannot explain how excited I am to read this book. Thanks to Hachette Book Group for the finished copy (hopefully I will get my copy in the mail before the end of the readathon)!

img_0370

The third challenge is to read a fierce female recommendation recommendation from the book community. I thought this would be the perfect time to finally read “The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo” by Taylor Jenkins Reid! I have heard SPECTACULAR things about this book in all of the book communities (book blogs, book tube, bookstagram, etc.), and I am eager to see what I think about it!

The fourth challenge is to read a book featuring/written by a fierce female or a book based off of women in history. I have chosen to read “Becoming” by Michelle Obama. This book has been the #1 best selling books on charts all over the world, and I am SO excited to finally read her novel. I am a huge Michelle Obama fan, and I was ecstatic to hear that she was writing and publishing her very own novel. I actually featured this book in my “Fierce Females in YA” post, which you can read here.

The last challenge for the FFR is to read a book with a fierce female leading a resistance. For this challenge, I have chosen to read an eARC of Crown of Feathers by Nicki Pau Preto, which has been sent to me from Simon & Schuster Canada. This book came out just a few days ago, and I am really looking forward to reading it! I have not read a YA fantasy book in ages, so I am interested to see what my opinions of this book will be since my reading preferences have changed drastically over the past six months. To be honest with you, I have heard very mixed things about this book, so it will be interesting to see what my overall opinions of it are.

And those are all of the books I plan on reading during the Fierce Females Reads Readathon! If you are participating, let me know what you plan on reading or comment the link to your post down below and I will be sure to check it out! Also make sure to follow the twitter for the Fierce Female Reads and use the #FierceFemaleReads, as there will be a lot of fun stuff going on there as well! I hope you will all participate in this readathon, since it is going to be a lot of fun!

Off The Grid Readathon TBR

Hi everybody and welcome back to Reading, Reading, Reading!

If you read my Bookish Goals of 2019 post, you will know that one of my goals was to participate in a lot more readathons. This weekend, Shanah from the Bionic Book Worm Blog is hosting the “Off the Grid Readathon“, which will be my first readathon of the year!

These readathons will be happening every three months (January, April, July, and October) during the second week of the month from Friday at 12:00am to Sunday at 11:59pm (in your own timezone). The main point of the readathon is to stay off your phone as much as possible (hence why it’s called Off the Grid). To read more about this readathon, click here.

I know the readathon has technically already started, but I have school until 2pm today, so I plan on starting around 2:45/3pm EST. I figured this would be the best readathon to start off with since this will be my last “peaceful” weekend of the month, as I will have to start studying for my exams next week. I won’t have that much time to read for the rest of the month, so I hope to read quite a few books this weekend.

img_8013

The first book I plan on reading/finishing is “1984” by George Orwell. I have been reading this book for the past couple of months in my english lit class, and we need to finish it this weekend as we have our final reading discussion on it on Tuesday. I have enjoyed it thus far, and am interested to see how the story will come to an end.

img_0145

The next book I plan on reading/finishing is “A Ladder To The Sky” by John Boyne. I received a finished copy of this book from Penguin Random House Canada in December, but have only started to read it this month. I have been absolutely loving it thus far, and am ready to step back into the story of Maurice and Erich!

img_0136

If I happen to finish both of those books before the readathon is finished, I plan on picking up “Behind Closed Doors” by B.A. Paris. I bought this book on Book Outlet last month, but haven’t had much time to read it because of my ARC “overflow” and I obviously needed to read those books first. Regardless, I am still SO excited to finally pick up this thriller, as I have heard great things about it!

If you are participating in this readathon, let me know in the comments and we can talk about all the books we plan on reading! Make sure you are following the official twitter account for this readathon (@OffTheGridReads) (and while your at it, follow me as well!), so you don’t miss out on any of the fun!

Holiday BookTubeAThon 2016 Day One

Hi friends!

I totally forgot to mention this before, but I am currently participating in the 2016 Holiday Booktubeathon! This will be my fourth Holiday Booktubeathon I will be partaking in, which is so awesome (the booktubeathon twitter even called me a veteran)!

I don’t really have a designated “To-Read” list, therefore I will be picking and choosing the books I want to read as I please.

As I have always done, I will be doing daily updates since the Holiday Booktubeathon is only three days (29-31). Now into today’s update!

Day One of the Holiday Booktubeathon was probably the most successful reading day I have ever had!

In the morning, I purchased a new ebook on my Kobo e-reader called “If I Was Your Girl” by Meredith Russo. The book was amazing, and a story I think everyone should read. I gave it a 5/5 stars and I plan on making a full book review for it in the future.

I then read 100 pages of an ARC I received from Raincoast Canada. It is a contemporary/LGBTQ+ novel called “Jess, Chunk and the Road Trip to Infinity”. So far it is excellent, and I am looking forward to finishing it immensely! Once it is finished, a review will be put in January.

Page Count: 388

Check back tomorrow for my day two update!
