Alyssa’s Reviews – Everything Leads To You by Nina La Cour

Hello everyone!

Before I get started with my review, I forgot to mention that this year, I hope to review EVERY BOOK that I read (NOT COUNTING GRAPHIC NOVELS)! This was the very first book that I read this year, and it definitely kick started my reading high!

Let’s get started with the review!

Title: Everything Leads To You

Author: Nina La Cour

Pages: 307

Publishing Date: May 15, 2014

Publishing House: Dutton Juvenile

Summary (Via https://www.goodreads.com/):

A wunderkind young set designer, Emi has already started to find her way in the competitive Hollywood film world.

Emi is a film buff and a true romantic, but her real-life relationships are a mess. She has desperately gone back to the same girl too many times to mention. But then a mysterious letter from a silver screen legend leads Emi to Ava. Ava is unlike anyone Emi has ever met. She has a tumultuous, not-so-glamorous past, and lives an unconventional life. She’s enigmatic…. She’s beautiful. And she is about to expand Emi’s understanding of family, acceptance, and true romance.

Review:

I loved this book SO MUCH!

I felt like I had a strong connection with all of the characters and that I got to see them growing up together! I thought that the main characters, Emi and Charlotte, had such an amazing passion for the film industry, and it showed so much through out this story.

The main character, Emi, is a lesbian, and I loved the way that the aspect of being gay wasn’t harshly done. Emi is only 18, but everybody is accepting of that, and that is amazing to FINALLY see in YA novels! Most of the time, the gay character will get picked on or bullied, but in this book it was just part of Emi’s personality! It also intertwined beautifully through out this book, as far as the romance aspect goes.

The mystery aspect was another huge one! I loved how the Emi and Charlotte set themselves on a mission to find who the “mysterious” letter was for, while not eve knowing what there were setting themselves up for!

Overall Rating: 5/5 Stars!

I had such a fun journey reading this book, I hope that soon you will be picking this book up to see for yourself!

The Week of Readathons Wrap-up!

Hey guys!

Today I’m going to do my first wrap up of 2015, for the three readathons that happend this week (Bout of Books, Biannual Bibliothon, and AYearAThon)!

This week I managed to read 2 and 1/2 books! Which I think is pretty sweet! Considering, I only read about one book a week!

I read Everything Leads To You by Nina La Cour, The Hunger Games, and half of Catching Fire!

I have to say, I’m really sad that I didn’t read the Hunger Games sooner! I got the box set last year as a holiday gift, and didn’t get a chance to read it until now!

Expect a review for both of those books (and MAYBE The Hunger Games movie review) during this week!

I hope you guys did well in the week of readathons! What readathons did you participate in? What did you read? Let me know below!
See You Guys Tommorow!

Quick Thought #5: What type of book should I pick as my first read of the year?

Hello everyone!

Welcome to today’s Quick Thought! Normally by the second week of January, everyone is done partying and back to reading/school. Most of the time, the first book of the year can be a hard pick. Although, I’m really not sure why! Being honest, this book would just be the first book of the year, that’s all. On the other hand, I see why.

When picking your first book of the year, your going to want to chose a book that you know won’t put you in a reading slump. You want your first book to almost get you on a reading high that will make you want to read more and more!

I recommend starting a series or trilogy, this way it will get you to finish the series and add even more books to your reading goal! I’m currently reading The Maze Runner Quartet by James Dashner, and so far it’s AMAZING!

If you have any tips on picking your first book of the year, tell me below! See you guys tommorow!

Libib App!

Hi everyone,

Recently I stumbled upon an app called Libib! It is an app where you can scan, categorize and list your books! Although, this app may sound a little like goodreads, it’s alot more neat and organized. The app also looks and feels very modern! This app not only can categorize your books, it can categorize movies, videogames, and music!

I have immensely been enjoying and experimenting with this app. It is a must for book collectors and library go-ers. It is almost like facebook for books, music, movies and games as you create a profile and can update your status! You can follow me on Libib, my username is @readingreadingreading! Have fun experimenting with this app! I would like to say thank you to Justin from the Libib crew for answering all of my questions!

Good Night Book Lions!

NaNoWriMo 2014: Chapter 9

It turns out the Derek Smool had an abnormal DDK. It seems that his DDK was only fifty-five years. So, he was only about thirty years off. How sad it must be for his family, I wonder. He had a girlfriend and three siblings. One of them was only two years old.
The site also states, that he has been very sick since he was little. So, the doctors (thought they) gave him a good prediction. I’ve always wondered how the doctors made the predictions. Sure, for him it might have been easy as he was sick, but how did they predict me as being a long one? I guess I’ll never find out.
Through the corner of my eye, I see Jared. I quickly close the screen and put up a blog that I like reading through every once in a while. “Finally, I got my log in code, after about a month of talking to my teachers about it. I’m sure you know what I mean, let’s just say, they can be a little bit taunting and additionally annoying.” He tells me.
The bell rings, we say goodbye, and I make my way to my next class.
I find Leah and I walk upstairs to our class with her. We have language now, so this should be a pretty relaxing class. Thankfully, our teacher, Mrs. Jones let’s us talk. I take this time to talk to Leah about my discovery’s of Derek.
After telling her my research and thoughts she is in complete and utter shock. “I can’t believe that Derek had a DDK of 50 years! That must be one of the lowest DDK’s in history, or ever for that matter! I wonder how his parents felt when they heard this!” she says. I agree with her they must have been very hurt.
By the end of the day, we are all pretty tired and out of it, so our teacher lets us leave early. Thank goodness she did, as I don’t know how long I would’ve lasted.

Creating a Blog: Weekly Memes!

Hi guys!

Today, on my creating a blog series, I thought I would share with you ALL of the bookish weekly memes I could find!

What is a “Weekly Meme”?

A “Weekly Meme” is a type of blog post that corresponds with the day of the week! Normally, the theme would match with the letter of that day, so if it’s Monday, the theme would start with an M.

Creating a Blog: Scheduling Posts/Content

Hi Everyone!

Today I’m going to share with you one of the biggest tips I can ever give you, SCHEDULE YOUR POSTS/CONTENT!

I’m not sure about any other blog domains, but here on WordPress, you can create your content in advance and post it on whatever day you want! Here’s a little secret, I like to pick a weekend where I schedule at least 1-2 weeks worth of content! In fact, I’m scheduling this! For readers this is January 7, but as I am typing this, it is January 3! Crazy right?

I even like to start planning out for future months or even years! I like to get a good idea of what I’m posting, so I can figure out when to post ARC Reviews, and things like that!

I hope that this was helpful for you!

Creating a Blog: Setting Up Social Media

Hello and Welcome Back!

Today, I’m going to be sharing with you one of my FAVOURITE parts of running a blog (besides posting of course!). That would be running corresponding social media accounts!

I have both Instagram and Twitter, and even Facebook!

Instagram: https://instagram.com/readingreadingreading
Twitter: https://twitter.com/iireadingii
Facebook: https://facebook.com/readingreadingreading

I recommend posting often and daily on any/all of your social media accounts!

Facebook
On Facebook, I recommend updating your status as the blog post that you just posted!

Twitter
On Twitter, interact with authors and your readers!

Instagram
On Instagram, I like to do sneak peaks of upcoming blog posts! Such as, if I were to post a book haul, I may post a picture on Instagram of the books for a “sneak peak”! I’m currently participating in the #hello2015bookchallenge on Instagram!

Those are my tips for using social media to enhance your blog! See you guys tomorrow!

Creating A Blog: How To Make Your Blog Eye Catching!

Hi everyone!

Yesterday, I discussed how to choose a theme and topic for your blog. Today, I’m going to be sharing with you a few tips on how to make your blog eye catching!

1. BRIGHT COLOURS!

Incorporate bright colours into your blog for people’s eyes to look at it even more closely! I liked the way that my theme had the colours under the top bar! I thought it was so cute!

2. Create a centre image!

A centre image is an image that catches the readers attention, even before that read a post on your blog! The centre images are mostly always at easy view, so on the top or very top side. My centre image is an owl!

3. Use a TON of pictures!

Throughout your posts you should have a variety of pictures! I’m still getting in to using pictures to enchance my post! I recommend using pictures that you have personally taken!

Those are my tips on how to make your blog eye catching!
